I am an artist and I am working under the pseudonym C.J. Callahan for this art project aka Old Guy's Art. I thought it would be a fun idea to work under a pseudonym. I will attempt to show you from stretching the raw canvas, the paints you can use to get started, to varnishing the finished painting, if needed. If your new I will try and help you price your paintings and of course there are a million ideas out there but I will show you what basicly worked for me. I also build my own panels and strainers. I then remove the canvas and ship it to the gallery or the person that purchased the painting. This does requier the painting to be streatched, but in the end it saves a lot on the shipping fees. If a coustomer wants the painting shipped streatched that is their option and you should use a company that handels art.
For this project if your in the U.S. I use Glidden flat paints and at times I do purchase Behr paints from Home Depoit. You find them in some big box stores or you may have a Glidden paint store near you. To help keep everything simple I'll use a red, black, white, Gliddens Premimum paint and their PPG gold metallic paint. If not use a good quality house paint from you local store. DO NOT use pre-mixed paints off the shelf like Rust-Oleum some stores have. The will not work and they will crack on you as soon as they dry. Nothing againest Rust-Oleum their paints work great on metal etc because I have used them over the years, but they are not good for the painting we'll be doing. I am not paid by PPG Industries, Inc. or Behr Process LLC for reccomending their paints nor am I paid by Home Depot.
For canvas I'll be using using a #6 (21oz.) heavy weight canvas for this project. I purchase all of my canvas from Big Duck Canvas. I buy 10 yards or more so it'll be shipped on a roll. If you purchase less than 10 yards it will be folded and shipped. So visit Big Duck Canvas This is not an affiliate link and I do not get paid by Big Duck Canvas for recommeding/promoting their website.
